Our Mission

LGBTQ+ and Allied Lawyers of Utah (LALU) is a group of lawyers serving lawyers. We are a Utah State Bar association and an affiliate of the National LGBTQ+ Bar. Our mission is to use education and advocacy to promote and support the rights of LGBTQ+ people within the legal profession and throughout Utah.

Eli is senior corporate counsel for Oracle and is based out of Salt Lake City.

Bret is a partner at Snell & Wilmer LLP, where he practices in the firm’s commercial litigation and bankruptcy practice groups.

Chris WhartonChris Wharton

Chris Wharton is a solo practice attorney focusing on family law, estate planning, and LGBTQ+ legal advocacy. He also serves on the Salt Lake City Council.

Katie NicholsKatie Nichols

Katie Nichols is a Senior City Attorney for Salt Lake City Corporation, representing the City and its officials in a variety of disputes in state and federal courts.

Kristin "Katie" Woods is an adult guardianship specialist based out of St. George.

Kyle FriantKyle Friant

Kyle Friant is a Salt Lake City-based attorney who works as Deputy Director of Better Boundaries, a Utah-based nonprofit committed to gerrymandering reform. In addition to his work at Better Boundaries, he works as a consultant for political candidates and causes. 

Tim CrispTim Crisp

Tim Crisp is a partner at Holland & Hart LLP, practicing in areas of banking, finance and corporate transactions and regulatory compliance. He practices in the firm’s Salt Lake City, Denver and Santa Fe offices.

LALU is open to all legal professionals who are members of the Utah State Bar. Annual membership dues are $40 for lawyers who have been practicing for more than three years and $25 for lawyers who have been practicing for three years or less.
